ABOUT
"We come into this world alone, and we leave the same way. The time we spent in-between - time spent alive, sharing, learning together... is all that makes life worth living."
Jean is an Omega Level mutant, viewed by many as the third most powerful mutant in the existence of Marvel continuity, the most powerful mutant telepath, and "the one true home" of The Phoenix Force. She is the wife of Scott Summers and co-leading the reformed X-Men with him. They have four children (most of the time grown) and are currently in a relationship with Logan, who lives with them.
PERSONALITY
Jean Grey hails from a world where mutants and humans have long been at war, whether implicitly or explicitly. The first student of Charles Xavier, after there death of her best awakened her powers at ten years old, Jean has grown up in this world and faced it front-forward as a superhero on the front lines. More than anyone else, Jean was groomed to be the heir of Charles’ Dream, having the same powers very much as him and more. Jean was devoted to The Professor unwaveringly for a long time: due to his saving her, raising her, instilling in her ‘The Dream,' and giving her the means to help make that dream come true.

Many things came along and changed Jean’s view of the world and life as she knew it. Being pulled from the past into the future, as a teenager, to fix the future X-Men’s problems; being thrown into the future on her Honeymoon to raise a child that wasn’t hers. Bonding with The Phoenix Force several times, leading both to the death of a planet and the saving of an entire universe. Her marriage to her childhood sweetheart and its many dramatic turns. Three children from alternate places in time or universe that look to her as their mother. The many revelations of the flawed humanity and problematic choices of her mentor. The several times that she died and came back to life, and the heartbreaking number of those that had involved her having to either take her own life or make a choice that she knew would, but always did to save those she loved.

For all the trials and heartache Jean has endured, she returned this last time even more dedicated to the cause of peace between humans and mutants. That goal has always been a fractious and contentious aim, and none more severely than in the current era, when mutants have claimed both the island nation of Krakoa, the planet Mars, and, though still a secret, dominion over death itself.

Her dedication to her family -- including team, friends, and other Krakoan's -- is unwavering. Jean supports people at whatever level they are at and ensures they know that she can see all they are doing. She has at turns both a sweet and slightly wicked sense of humor and irreverent respect for everything they've been through. A supportive it's better to laugh than cry, but her shoulder is here if you need it, too, air to her, and she's willing to be the person to step forward first to start that hug.

Jean is nowhere near perfect, but she aspires to a higher calling. She knows she can never balance the scales on the number of people killed while she was the Phoenix, but she will make each day, each life she touches, and person she helps/saves count. While she is an omega mutant and considered one of the most powerful beings on her planet, she chooses love and kindness as her greatest weapons—the ones she wants to use most in her life and choices.

Powers: Jean is an Omega Level mutant, viewed by many as the third most powerful mutant in existence of Marvel continuity (currently). Her permissions & opt-in/opt-out posts are here as to meet the comfort of all writers/their characters/maintaining the peace and tranquility of games being for fun. [Powers pulled directly from Jean's Bio.]

On many occasions, Jean has shown to have incredibly strong empathic powers that enable her to control, manipulate, and alter the feelings and sensations of others. Jean can read others thoughts, project and broadcast her thoughts, as well as affect the minds of humans and animals with higher-order intelligence

She has displayed the defensive ability to telepathically cloak/shield herself and others from detection and mental attacks. (The limit to which is defined by both the number of people she is shielding and the number of people who are attacking it.) She is capable of telepathic illusions/camouflage which cause people to be convinced that things appear alternatively to how they indeed are. (The limit to both of these being defined as harder the more people she is trying to convince of the illusions).

She has displayed the manipulative ability to control, alter, and erase another persons thoughts, memories, and personality. (This will only ever be used with prior planning and a player's verbal consent, and cannot be done to more than one person at a time.) She is capable of mentally sedating and helping heal mental trauma. (This cannot be done to more than one person at a time.)

She can, also, project psychic bolts that have no physical effect, but can cause pain and/or damage. Jean can, also, traverse and manipulate the Astral Plane and maintain psychic links. Jean will not be able to read or affect the minds/emotions of beings who are not considered “living” beings (such as the minds of robots, ghosts, etc.).

Jean’s telekinesis (aka projection of psychokinetic energy) enables her to levitate objects, propel or manipulate them how she wishes, lift herself and move through the air to simulate flight, generate concussive force as telekinetic blasts/ bursts, create protective shields, and with great effort transmute objects on a sub-atomic level (such as stimulating molecules to produce heat).

Areas of Interest / Brainstorming: Jean might be interested in helping put a mental network together if there are more telepaths than just herself. She will feel drawn to collecting all of her team/people together into one place at first, to keep them safe and accounted for.

BACKGROUND: Jean GreyJean Grey: Extended HistoryThe X-MenThe Phoenix Force

PERSONALITY:

Jean Grey hails from a world where mutants and humans have long been at war, whether implicitly or explicitly. The first student of Charles Xavier, after there death of her best awakened her powers at ten years old, Jean has grown up in this world and faced it front-forward as a superhero on the front lines. Jean, more than anyone else, was groomed to be very much the heir of Charles Dream, having the same powers very much as him and more. Jean, herself, was for a very long time, devoted to The Professor unshatterably for a very long time: due to his saving her, raising her, instilling in her ‘The Dream’ (for all mutant kind to be safe and accepted), and giving her the means to help make that dream come true.

Many things came along and changed Jean’s view of the world, and life (both her own, and the macrocosm scale of it) as she knew it. Being pulled from the past into the future, as a child, to fix the future X-Men’s problem, post-Cyclop’s killing Professor Xavier. Bonding with The Phoenix force in a time of need when she was dying in a shuttle in space, longing most to save herself and the X-Men. Her marriage to her longtime childhood sweetheart, and the subsequent crashing end to it, involving his affair. Discovering three children from alternate places in time or universe that are hers, and/or that look to her as their mother. The revelation of Onslaught, that was the crushing realization of the worst the Xavier had done for the whole of her time knowing him. His arrest, and even his later murder by her ex-husband, too.

The several times that she died and came back to life during it; and the heartbreaking number of those that had involved her having to either take her own life, or to make a choice that she knew would it, but save those that she loved.

For all the trials and heartache Jean has endured, frequently with more regularity than anything genuinely worthy of grand celebration, she has returned this last time even more dedicated to the cause of peace between humans and mutants. Driven to defend and collect around her those most willing to ‘fight’ for a world where there will no longer be an “us and them…only us.”

Jean is nowhere perfect even though she aspires to a hirer calling, to a dream much like the one she believed in when she was younger. She still caries pain and rage in her — especially for the murder of her ex-husband while she was last dead — but she does her best to set it aside, knowing that acting out from them, emotionally or with vengeant violence, can only damage the path she wants everyone to be a part of. She struggles with this, but she does her best to try and move forward. To lead the team that looks up to her in the best ways that she can, to reach out to the brightest and wisest minds in the world, to find the path that isn’t merely hers, but the best one that might unify everyone.

Her dedication to her family -- including team, student body, and friends -- is unwavering. Jean supports people at whatever level they are at and tries to make sure they know that she can see all they are doing. She has at turns both a sweet and slightly wicked sense of humor and irreverent respect for everything they've been through. A supportive it's better to laugh than cry, but her shoulder is here if you need it, too, air to her.

Jean doesn't believe there is a point to lying, and as an avatar of the Phoenix, she can speak only truth, herself. She will always take on more than she should and, while she is fast to ask for other's thoughts on a problem-based in their work, Jean is often far more cautious and held apart, except with her closest chosen, where it comes to matters of her heart.

POWER:
Jean is an Omega Level mutant, viewed by many as the third most powerful mutant in existence of Marvel continuity (currently). Her permissions & opt-in/opt-out posts are here as to meet the comfort of all writers/their characters/maintaining the peace and tranquility of games being for fun.

Mental Manipulation (Canon) —> Telepathy, Empathy, Telekinesis
[Mental powers pulled from Jean's Fandom Bio.]

On many occasions, Jean has shown to have incredibly strong empathic powers that enable her to control, manipulate, and alter the feelings and sensations of others. Jean can read others thoughts, project and broadcast her thoughts, as well as affect the minds of humans and animals with higher order intelligence

She has displayed the defensive ability to telepathically cloak/shield herself and others from detection and mental attacks. (The limit to which is defined not by both the number of people she is shielding and the number of people who are attacking it.) She is capable of telepath illusions/camouflage which cause people to be convinced that things appear alternatively to how they indeed are. (The limit to both of these being defined as harder the more people she is trying to convince of the illusions).

She has displayed the manipulative ability to control, alter, and erase another persons thoughts, memories, and personality. (This will only ever be used with prior planning and a players verbal consent, and cannot be done to more than one person at a time.) She is capable of mentally sedating and helping heal mental trauma. (This cannot be done to more than one person at a time.)

She can, also, project psychic bolts that have no physical effect, but can cause pain and/or damage. Jean can, also, traverse and manipulate the Astral Plane and maintain psychic links between herself and another person for years (though she only chose to have one long-lasting one during her life, thus far, the same limitations as earlier apply).

Cosmic Symbiosis (Canon) —> The One True Phoenix

The Phoenix Force is one of the oldest cosmic entries of the Marvel 616 universe, representing the forces of birth and destruction. It is an immortal, indestructible, and immutable manifestation of the primal universal force of life. After a very long, entertained history, Jean and the Phoenix Force were revealed as being a single bound entity. The Phoenix Force told Xavier that "Jean is only the house where I live." Jean Grey was the closest thing the Phoenix Force had to a true earthly Avatar (/physical embodiment).

As the Phoenix is an overwhelming powerful creature, it will be significantly depowered for its use in Mask or Menace, more present as itself and appearance rather than its omnipotent abilities. While bonded with the Phoenix, Jean’s use of her psionic abilities, they often manifest as the appearance as the Firebird itself, whether around her or coming from her body or out of her hands.

The only powers Jean will still have access to for now is Psionic Nexus (wherein Jean’s psionic abilities are strengthened by their bonds, but all limits earlier listed include this), energy absorption (ability to absorb/diffuse energy directed at her; such as Cyclop’s optic blast while his eyes were open), HyperSpace Travel (the ability to fly through the void of space).

The Phoenix has an extreme weakness to the chaos magic of possessed by Scarlet Witch and the Iron Fist Energy from K’un-Lun.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[ When Jean turns on the Network, there is a sedate seriousness to her. Calm expression even as her bright green eyes were conflicted, still more than a little distracted processing what has happened, while she shifted and started as simply as she could. ]

Hello, I’ve been told that new arrivals are encouraged to reach out and see if anyone else they know has already come here. My name is Jean Grey, and I come from another Earth.

[ It is at least half true, and more besides. She’s used to complicated truths, and the bending walls of time and reality and the far reaches of the Omniverse. Jean doesn’t always love it, but it could be worse. It could be so much worse. Everything she’s touched and sensed since waking has not been anywhere near as bad as some of the times she’d woken. From the ocean, the ground, alternate universes, future timelines, past ones, completely outside of all of them. ]

I'm seeking any of my family and friends who might already be here.

I’d, also, like to reach to those currently running things. I would like to learn more about what is happening here, at least to the best of my ability, and I appreciate anyone’s help that would be willing.

ACTIVE TIMES/PACE: CST. I'm a full time professor, laden with professional and personal extracurriculars. As well as a cadre of comorbid diagnosis that don't always play well with each other or me. I try to keep up, but sometimes if I'm overwhelmed, my tag speed will slide hard.
OOC OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: I'm pretty open to all topics, so long as everyone can be adults, and they are discussed in a respectful and professional manner. I will avoid drama, name calling, gossip/rumor-mongering, and slander at most every cost.

PLAYING PREFERENCES

BACKTAGGING: Until the heat death of the sun. Really. Even ten years from now.
THREADHOPPING: Absolutely down for it, as it's more realistic.
BRACKETS/PROSE: Prose, but I will match brackets if someone else's starts that way.
EXPLICIT SEX: I'm incredibly selectively where it comes to partners for this, but I do write it, yes.
EXPLICIT GORE/VIOLENCE: Most of my canon have a bit of this in it, so yeah.
NOT INTERESTED IN: 24/7 slice-of-life. Jealousy/backstabbing/etc. Drama for drama's sake, when the characters never learn/grow from it or are willing to deal with the fallout of said situations.

IN CHARACTER

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Jean's rather used to it, both with people being it toward her and her toward others. She's easy to give a hug, lay a hand on someone elses's, or their arm, shoulder, while talking to or consoling them; but, also, as a telepath, she'll never force a touch that's unwanted.
PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: To quote Kitty, "I've been an X-Man since I was fourteen. It's like wearing a big sign saying 'Please try and kill me, I like it."
ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS: Jean is pretty well and truly settled into the life she has with her husband, their boyfriend, his (/sometimes-their) girlfriend, and so on. Which is to say, she's not currently looking for anything new, especially since she's finally in the (newer) one she's thought for a decade and more never could be hers no matter how well and truly it'd proved it was never going to die.
SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS: Jean doesn't really have any hangups with sex, especially in the new Krakoan landscaping of her world. Which, oddly enough, means there's a scooch more chance in this box than the relationship one, but she's still not actively looking.

How's my driving flying going with the lovely Ms. Jean Grey?

Compliments? Constructive criticism? I'd love to hear your thoughts and to compare thoughts, consider things from outside of my playing. I find that these kinds of constructive, collaborative conversations can only lend to broader thinking, experimenting, and even better writing/games.

Jean's right, after all. We're always stronger and brighter together.

Permissions & Opt-In/Opt-Out

OOC permissions
  • Back Tagging Literally until the heat death of the earth. There is no point at which your/my tag is too old to be sent.
  • Thread Hopping Absolutely fine with it. Especially on networks, where that's 100% normal in our daily lives. Thread Crashing can absolutely be planned for, too.
  • Canon Breaking Jean won't blink at it. Her life has already been filled with clones and AU/time displaced versions of herself and her family/friends. She'll probably very quickly assume it's something like that. That it might be the truth of the person speaking, but that didn't negate or equate to making her 616-world/universe truth.
  • Offensive Topics Jean is pretty knowledgeable about most things and has been around as a superhero since her young childhood. She's very level-headed, even when she's very angry and very hurt, and she's currently on a path of vast nonviolence when it can be most helped (and in her opinion, it can almost always be helped).
IC permissions
  • Physical Affection Jean is a physically affectionate person. She's quick to give a hug, or place a hand on an arm or shoulder. She's quick to offer comfort when it's needed, and she is open to receiving all of these given in a comradery, friendly, and familial fashion.
  • Flirting/Kissing Jean is very much taken, but not immune to the fun of flirting easily with someone she knows well. While sexuality has become an incredibly fluid thing for mutants post-Krakoa and The First Law, Jean is very happily settled in her life, with the people who are in her house, her heart, her head, and her bed. It's not a no entirely, but it's an 'unlikely unless you are certain other people.'
  • Mental Contact Go for it. Jean is the strongest telepath on her planet, and she finds it relaxing to connect with people on that level.
  • Fighting/Injury Jean has been a trained superhero since a young age, and she's stayed on that path almost all of her life since. She is willing to give her all (and her life, several times) to the dream of a better life for mutant and humankind as one people undivided. Both of these are a given in it.
  • Death This is Jean Grey. This is always on the table. Sorry to everyone who loves her.
