Jean Grey hails from a world where mutants and humans have long been at war, whether implicitly or explicitly. The first student of Charles Xavier, after there death of her best awakened her powers at ten years old, Jean has grown up in this world and faced it front-forward as a superhero on the front lines. More than anyone else, Jean was groomed to be the heir of Charles’ Dream, having the same powers very much as him and more. Jean was devoted to The Professor unwaveringly for a long time: due to his saving her, raising her, instilling in her ‘The Dream,' and giving her the means to help make that dream come true.
Many things came along and changed Jean’s view of the world and life as she knew it. Being pulled from the past into the future, as a teenager, to fix the future X-Men’s problems; being thrown into the future on her Honeymoon to raise a child that wasn’t hers. Bonding with The Phoenix Force several times, leading both to the death of a planet and the saving of an entire universe. Her marriage to her childhood sweetheart and its many dramatic turns. Three children from alternate places in time or universe that look to her as their mother. The many revelations of the flawed humanity and problematic choices of her mentor. The several times that she died and came back to life, and the heartbreaking number of those that had involved her having to either take her own life or make a choice that she knew would, but always did to save those she loved.
For all the trials and heartache Jean has endured, she returned this last time even more dedicated to the cause of peace between humans and mutants. That goal has always been a fractious and contentious aim, and none more severely than in the current era, when mutants have claimed both the island nation of Krakoa, the planet Mars, and, though still a secret, dominion over death itself.
Her dedication to her family -- including team, friends, and other Krakoan's -- is unwavering. Jean supports people at whatever level they are at and ensures they know that she can see all they are doing. She has at turns both a sweet and slightly wicked sense of humor and irreverent respect for everything they've been through. A supportive it's better to laugh than cry, but her shoulder is here if you need it, too, air to her, and she's willing to be the person to step forward first to start that hug.
Jean is nowhere near perfect, but she aspires to a higher calling. She knows she can never balance the scales on the number of people killed while she was the Phoenix, but she will make each day, each life she touches, and person she helps/saves count. While she is an omega mutant and considered one of the most powerful beings on her planet, she chooses love and kindness as her greatest weapons—the ones she wants to use most in her life and choices.
